The Aura House FAQ

At The Aura House, we promise to over-communicate ALL of the details so you’re ALWAYS in the know. Here are the FAQs that we’ve gathered over time as well as all the things you’re going to want to know about our member policies and expectations :)

Is The Aura House a yoga studio?

There’s a LOT to explore within our space, so it can be hard to find a name that fully encompasses all that we have to offer. From the outside looking in, it might be easiest to call it a yoga studio. But we’re SO much more than that. Our practices reach beyond yoga alone, so if we’re being ‘official’ about it, The Aura House is a multi-modality studio space. It’s the combination of many wellness-based practices offered under one roof.

How do you get to the studio?

When you arrive at 57 Mill Street North we have a big parking lot on the North side of the building. Accessible parking spaces are available. From the parking lot you’ll see 2 different entrances. We’re closest to the ELEVATOR MAIN ENTRANCE which has an accessibility button for the doors. You can take the Elevator or the stairs up to the third floor. Turn left once you’re up, and you’ve made it! We’ll be waiting for you in unit 301 :) If the door is closed, you can give it a knock OR call the studio at 647 564 2872 to be let in

What can I expect when I arrive?

Once you’re in the space, we ask that you take your shoes off and place them in one of our shoe cubbies. You’re welcome to wear slippers, socks or indoor shoes if you don’t like to have bare feet.

You’ll be welcomed by someone at the front desk who will sign you in for your class or appointment.

While you wait, you can relax in our community area or take a look around our store.

What will I need for class?

The basics are a yoga mat, water bottle and towel. We’ll let you know if there’s anything else that you need in the ‘special instructions’ of the class that you sign up for! Mats, Blocks, straps, joint pads and bolsters are all provided free of charge.

Always dress in comfortable clothes that you can move and breathe in (unless you’re up for the restrictive challenge of practicing in jeans :P)

What classes can I take if I can’t afford a membership, or want to be an Energy Exchanger?

Community Classes are FREE for anyone to access. All you’ll need is one of our free accounts to pre-register for class.

We also offer Contribute What You Can events that give you the choice of how much you’d like to pay to take part.

If you are interested in being an Energy Exchanger (someone who exchanges services for access to classes) reach out to diana@theaurahouse.ca and let her know what kind of exchange you’d like to provide for the studio community.

We also have an initiative called The Aura Access Fund which allows us to provide full or partial grants for those who apply and can demonstrate both a need, and a commitment for their practice. You can apply for The Aura Access Fund by reaching out to lisa@theaurahouse.ca

What classes are good for beginners?

We do our best to indicate the ‘level’ of each class in its description. If you’re new to any of the practices, start with the classes that say ‘All Levels’ , ‘Beginner’ , or ‘Beginner/Intermediate’. If you have any questions about particular classes, let us know.

What does ‘All Levels’ mean?

All Levels classes are led in ways that provide lots of different options for each posture or exercise. You can challenge yourself as much or as little as your body is up for and get curious about what you’re capable of!

What does ‘Beginner’ mean?

Beginner classes take things slow and more cueing details are shared for each posture or exercise

What does ‘Beginner/Intermediate’ mean?

Beginner/Intermediate classes have a build to each posture or exercise with cueing details that are familiar to beginners who have taken some classes.

What does ‘Intermediate/Advanced’ mean?

Intermediate/Advanced classes may take things a little faster, or deeper, with less cueing and more attention to building strength

If I purchase a class pass or membership and don’t come to classes, am I able to extend the expiry?

When you purchase a class pass or membership you’re making a commitment to yourself, with the understanding that you have a certain amount of time to use your pass to your advantage. We would rather help you find ways to make it to class and celebrate you for committing to your practice than bail you out when the ball gets dropped. So the short answer? No. For our full Expiry Policy click: HERE

If I purchase a membership, can it be cancelled any time?

Yes. That being said, no refunds will be issued if you forget to cancel. IF you reach out within 2 weeks of being charged, you may be granted an account credit to use towards other products or services through The Aura House.

Can I show up late to classes?

The short answer, No. The first 5-10 minutes of every class are guided time to ground and warm up for your practice. Showing up late is like trying to catch a flight in mid-air … unsafe and highly unrecommended. Pro-tip: set it in your mind that class starts 5 minutes earlier than it does. Then you’ll always be here and ready to go!

Late Arrival Policy

  • The front door will close 3 minutes after the start time

  • FOR YOGA AND MEDITATION We can make an exception ONLY for those who contact us about being late AND so long as they are here within 5 minutes of the class start time. If we know you will be late, we can plan accordingly to allow you in.

  • FOR PILATES We can make an exception ONLY for those who contact us about being late AND so long as they are here within 10 minutes of the class start time

  • FOR ALL, if lateness is the result of waiting for the train to clear, we will make an exception SO LONG AS it's not beyond 10 minutes of the class start time

This policy must be followed out of respect for:

  • our teachers who are creating a safe container for members to practice in

  • our members who have started their practice and should not have to be subject to unnecessary disruption (cntd. on next page)

  • You! The beginning of each class provides the foundation for a safe practice and if it is missed, could result in you rushing and moving in ways that don’t actually serve your body

Up to when can I cancel a class without a penalty?

Late Cancel + No-Show Policy for Sanctuary Classes (Yoga, Mat Pilates, Meditation)
