The Aura House FAQ

At The Aura House, we promise to over-communicate ALL of the details so you’re ALWAYS in the know. Here are the FAQs that we’ve gathered over time as well as all the things you’re going to want to know about our member policies and expectations :)

Is The Aura House a yoga or Pilates studio?

There’s a LOT to explore within our space, so it can be hard to find a name that fully encompasses all that we have to offer. From the outside looking in, it might be easiest to call it a yoga and pilates studio. But we’re SO much more than that. Our practices reach beyond yoga and pilates alone, so if we’re being ‘official’ about it, The Aura House is a multi-modality studio space. It’s the combination of many wellness-based practices offered under one roof.

How do you get to the studio?

Swing on over to our Contact page for details on how to get to the studio.

What can I expect when I arrive?

Once you’re in the space, we ask that you take your shoes off and place them in one of our shoe cubbies. You’re welcome to wear slippers, socks or indoor shoes if you don’t like to have bare feet.

You’ll be welcomed by someone at the front desk who will sign you in for your class or event.

While you wait, you can relax in our community areas.

What will I need for class?

The basics are a yoga mat, water bottle and towel. We’ll let you know if there’s anything else that you need in the ‘special instructions’ of the class that you sign up for! Mats, Blocks, straps, joint pads and bolsters are all provided free of charge.

Always dress in comfortable clothes that you can move and breathe in (unless you’re up for the restrictive challenge of practicing in jeans :P)

If taking a Reformer Class, you’ll need Grippy Socks!

Do you offer trial or free classes?

Community Classes are FREE for anyone to access. All you’ll need is one of our free accounts to pre-register for class.

If you’d like to try one of our other classes on the regular schedule, you can purchase a 1-time class pass. See Pricing page for details..

What does an ‘All Levels’ class mean?

All Levels classes are led in ways that provide lots of different options for each posture or exercise. You can challenge yourself as much or as little as your body is up for and get curious about what you’re capable of!

Do I have to Pre-Register for Classes?

You *MUST* pre-register for classes in order to guarantee your spot. The Aura House reserves the right to cancel any classes that do not have a minimum number of participants registered.

If I purchase a class pass or membership and don’t come to classes, am I able to extend the expiry?

When you purchase a class pass or membership you’re making a commitment to yourself, with the understanding that you have a certain amount of time to use your pass. There will be no rollover of any classes missed due to personal illness, or studio cancellation/closure (for inclement weather or special events).

If you are aware of time that you will be away from the studio, you are welcome to place a hold on your pass/membership, for up to 2 weeks total within 1 calendar year, at no additional cost to you.

No further extensions will be granted for any reason.

Can I share my Pass/Membership with someone else?

Passes/Memberships that have a set # of classes associated with them can be shared. If sharing of your pass/membership is desired, please contact hello@theaurahouse.ca and we will set up the pass/membership accordingly.

Passes/Memberships that are unlimited can not be shared.

In the event you are unable to utilize your pass/membership, you may request to have it transferred to a friend or family member. Please note that the pass can only be transferred once.

If I purchase a membership, can it be cancelled any time?

Auto-Renewing memberships can be turned off at any time by contacting hello@theaurahouse.ca. No refunds will be issued if you forget to turn off auto-renew.

Memberships with a term-commitment (like our 4-Month Sanctuary Membership) are subject to a $50 cancellation fee, if cancelling before the term is up.

Can I show up late to classes?

The short answer, No. The first 5-10 minutes of every class are guided time to ground and warm up for your practice. Showing up late is like trying to catch a flight in mid-air … unsafe and highly unrecommended. Pro-tip: set it in your mind that class starts 10 minutes earlier than it does. Then you’ll always be here and ready to go!

Late Arrival Policy

You are encouraged to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to class time starting. Please keep in mind that the studio is located very close to a transit system and several trains pass by each day, blocking the flow of traffic into the studio. Give yourself plenty of time to ensure you arrive early.

The front door will close AS SOON AS class is set to begin, as there is no way for our instructors to teach and keep the door open for late arrivals. If the front door is closed upon your arrival, you will not be let in to the studio

This policy must be followed out of respect for:

- our teachers who are creating a safe container for members to practice in

- our members who have started their practice and should not have to be subject to unnecessary disruption

- You! The beginning of each class provides the foundation for a safe practice and if it is missed, could result in you rushing and moving in ways that may put you at risk of injury

Up to when can I cancel a class without a penalty?

At The Aura House, we believe in cultivating fairness, presence, and mutual respect—both on and off the mat. The following policy helps ensure that our classes remain accessible, intentional, and enjoyable for all members of our community.

Late Cancel + No-Show Policy

Cancellations must be made at least 6 hours before class start time. Cancellations made with less than 6 hours will result in the following:

  • $15 Late Cancel / No Show Fee for Unlimited Membership holders

  • The loss of a class credit for “Pass” Members / Holders

  • $5 Late Cancel / No Show Fee for Community Classes

If balances are left unpaid, your account will be flagged and you will not have access to book classes until the balance is paid.

There is no refund/reversal on Late Cancel or No Show Fees. You may instead be granted studio credit, if your late cancel or no show is due to an unforeseen emergency (i.e. accident, sudden illness, injury, needing to caretake for a loved one unexpectedly).

Do you have a refund policy?

All class passes, memberships, workshops, trainings, gift cards and merchandise are FINAL SALE. No refunds will be provided. Please reach out to hello@theaurahouse.ca if you have questions regarding your purchase.

Do you have a Non-Discrimination Policy?

We sure do!

All Teachers & Members of The Aura House should conduct themselves in a manner that contributes to a safe and welcoming environment for students from all walks of life to deepen their practice.

  • Harassment, Discrimination, Unsafe Practices, Misguidance, and Unethical Practices will not be tolerated.

We hope that all Teachers & Members feel safe enough to bring matters of discrimination and/or harrassment to the attention of the studio owner, Lisa Alexandra (she/her). There are a few ways in which you can reach out:

  1. Email Lisa at lisa@theaurahouse.ca

  2. Submit an anonymous tip via Google Form at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeMYPPjsK5-BkYc1m1xI-pLn7VKkMjxs4sgEl_iUTetIxljLw/viewform?usp=sf_link

When such matters arise, we turn to our Pillar of  Unassuming and commit to sitting with the individuals involved (separately) to hear their perspective of the event, and why they feel it came to be.

(Unassuming >> Through community, we will in our hearts be unassuming of our neighbours who walk through our doors.)

During those conversations, we will listen for, and catch language that is discriminatory, unsafe, misguided or unethical, and flag that for the individual.

If the individual is willing to hear constructive feedback related to their language choices, and commits to learning how to communicate in safer ways, they will be invited to hold a probationary membership* with our space.

*If at any time after the probationary membership has been granted, the individual behaves in such a way that makes another Teacher or Member feel unsafe or unwelcome, their membership will be revoked and they will not be permitted to return to our space.

If the individual is not willing to hear constructive feedback related to their language choices and commit to learning how to communicate in safer ways, their membership will be revoked and they will not be permitted to return to our space.

Ultimately, our policies have a common thread: Be kind to your neighbours :)
