Aura’s origin story

On February 15th 2020, The Aura House Founder, Lisa scribbled what would later be The Aura House’s pillars on a cue card that she was using as a bookmark. The Aura House wasn’t even an idea at that point. But once they were written, it all started falling into place. She thought it would be amazing to have a space where all of these principles could be practiced under one roof in her own city.

Two months later, a studio space became available, and by July of 2020, The Aura House officially moved into The Old Shoe Factory in Downtown Brampton.

United under one roof …

unfold

Through movement practices, we will allow ourselves to unfold.

untold

Through storytelling, we will allow ourselves to express ourselves in ways that until now, have been unspoken.

unwind

Through meditation and mindfulness practices we will find quiet and unwind.

unassuming

Through community, we will in our hearts, thoughts, and actions be unassuming of our neighbours who walk through our doors.

unashamed

Through connection, we will live unashamed of the spectrum of emotions and sensational experiences that come with our humanness.

untethered

Through healing modalities, we will work to become untethered from the patterning that no longer serves us.

… unbound

Our practices will extend beyond our walls, unbound - simple, yet profound.

We’re not ‘just’ a yoga studio

People may come to us with the initial intention of taking a yoga class, but end up discovering so much more.

Our classes, workshops, 1-1 appointments, and crystal store are like a local one-stop shop for an eclectic mix of alternative wellness tools & experiences.

We’re proud of all of the ways we have shown up and been recognized by our Community. Thank you to all who have supported us and continue to amplify the work we do in Brampton 🙏

“I have a long and winding story as to how I got here. But in hindsight, life gave me everything I needed to give life to The Aura House. I’ve lived with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and periods of paranoia but have never been shy when it comes to the deep work that goes into overcoming those states. My body NEEDS movement. My mind NEEDS to be able to process through my experiences with storytelling. I NEED my time to unwind and stay grounded in the totality of the present moment. I NEED a community of like-minded souls who allow me to explore the many facets of myself without fear of judgment or shame. I NEED my dream team of therapists who practice modalities of the East & West. And I NEED to know I’m not alone in wanting to take all of that out into my world and explore beyond the walls of my comfort zone.

Before I took my first teacher training in 2014, I couldn’t have imagined the life I’ve led since. In 2015, I founded lala wellness, a yoga and mindfulness-based program for children in their early years. Through lala, I trained Early Childhood Professionals all over Ontario and the United States and was recognized as one of Brampton’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2017. That same year, I made my way onto bookshelves in Early Childhood Classrooms by self-publishing my children’s book, I’m a Growing Yogi. In 2020, my opportunity to work with children in classrooms came to a sudden and devastating halt as a result of the pandemic. I took that time to re-imagine what my role in our world needed to look like, and from that, emerged The Aura House: a space where people can reclaim their stories, gain permission to express themselves whole-heartedly, and shift towards greater self-awareness and mental wellness. I hope that The Aura House will be embraced as a community space where people can explore practices that they may not otherwise have access to locally.”

"My journey to where I am now began as a little girl in a home where breathwork was normal, meditation was common and movement was essential. My father was often found sitting with me talking about the science behind card readings and noticing the energy in the room. As I grew older, I found my way into Pilates and loved the strength and stability it brought into my life. Then during University, I became curious about yoga. It didn’t take long for me to learn that yoga was more than movement and cute outfits, and could feel myself shift and grow with every class I took. The pieces of my childhood started fitting into place as I started integrating breathwork and meditation into my practice.

Yoga followed me through University, Grad School, and Teachers’ College … and it became a natural addition to the curriculum in my classroom as a middle school teacher.

In 2015 when my life flipped upside down, I decided to take my YTT at Kripalu while also deepening my practices of Reiki, crystal work, and card reading. My curiosity to learn and study more evolved into what would become Divine Luna Wellness and my services being offered at The Aura House.

I’ve worked hard to help guide those around me to heal energetically, and I integrate that work with physical healing through yoga, mat pilates, and reformer pilates.

My fundamental life work is as a teacher. The years I have spent practicing, learning, researching, and studying the modalities I am passionate about are what prepared me to create the Divine Aura Yoga School.

I will never stop learning, sharing, and wanting to build and grow a community space, where everyone feels heard, held, and loved."
